Micro-organisms are present on every object to a greater or
lesser extent.
Many of these micro-organisms represent a hazard for human health
and can be the cause of various pathologies. It is important to
prevent such micro-organisms from passing from one person to the
next, namely the occurrence of what is referred to as "cross-infection",
by using sterile instruments and operating in controlled conditions.
A product is sterile when it is free from living micro-organisms.
The purpose of the sterilisation process is therefore to eliminate
all bacteria, viruses and spores.
